CROWS ARE WHITE
CROWS ARE WHITE is a documentary filmed over a 3-year period in an isolated Japanese monastery. The film shares unique access to a private community where monks risk death and madness in search of enlightenment. We witness a little shown side of monastic life; the boredom, tedium and how the modern things that we long to escape, are a source of refuge for some monks seeking connection. The recognized traditions are demystified and we glimpse into other ways of accessing the spiritual. We peek inside this secluded world, and learn that these monks share the same universal themes we all experience. They yearn for freedom from the past, strive for truth, struggle with hypocrisy and rebel from the expected norm.
